Two dead, 3 detained after shooting at Mesa nightclub

PHOENIX — Two people have died after a shooting at a nightclub in Mesa early Sunday morning, authorities said.

Police responded to the Alma School Road and Southern Avenue area after receiving reports of a shooting around 2:20 a.m.

Officers discovered two men with gunshot wounds in the parking lot who were pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

Two other victims were later located with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and transported to a local hospital for treatment, authorities said.

When officers arrived, a passenger car was seen leaving the parking lot at high speed.

Officers pursued the vehicle and stopped it in the area of ​​Seventh and Southern Avenues in Phoenix, where three occupants were arrested to determine their involvement in the shooting, authorities said.

Officers retraced the path taken during the chase and located a handgun near the roadway of the crime scene. The weapon will be examined to determine its involvement, authorities said.

Detectives are working to identify the dead men.

An investigation remains ongoing.
