The 25 Best Sports Bars in Massachusetts and New Hampshire

New England game days – ahhh – the best.

Imagine a Patriots game Sunday at 1 p.m. If you’re not going to the game, you might end up in a sports bar at 11 a.m.

Why so early? Because it’s GAME DAY.

The atmosphere in most sports bars is unmatched during a game. I use Mojo’s in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and Winners Circle in Salisbury, Massachusetts as examples.

If you go to any of these places between 11am and 12pm, before a 1pm game, the bars start to get energized. And it’s building. And built. And BUILD.

People are having a late breakfast/early lunch. People start drinking a few beers to prepare for the game. People meet new friends, play keno, place bets – all for that 1 p.m. kick-off.

The second the game starts, everyone in the establishment is your friend. Everyone is there to see the same thing – a New England or Boston sports team victory.

Huge game? High fives all around. It doesn’t matter who you are, where you’re sitting, everyone gets a high five.

Touchdown/goal? Beers. Beers. Beers. Drink, celebrate, make some noise and get another one!

Some people say, and it’s certainly me sometimes, that the best place to watch a game/spend a game day is at home. And it’s certainly true sometimes. I really like to drink my own beer, in my own seat, without anyone around me talking and disturbing me.

That said, being around other fans on a game day is more fun.

You clap, they clap. You drink, they drink. You get angry, they get angry. It’s just a group of people with similar interests (earning from home) gathered in one place.

Strangers become friends and friends become family in these kinds of sports bars.
