Shots were fired outside the American Way nightclub

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – One person was injured after shots were fired outside a nightclub in Parkway Village early Sunday morning.

Memphis police say officers responded to a call for gunfire at the Statuz Night Club on American Way just before 12:30 a.m.

Upon arrival, officers saw numerous shell casings in the company’s parking lot as well as several cars hit by gunfire.

A security guard said there were two groups of people inside the club who were having a verbal altercation. The security guard told the two groups to stop arguing or leave the company. One group decides to leave and the second group followed them out of the club.

According to police, the second group rushed for the door and shots were fired once both groups exited.

A victim attempted to drive a personal vehicle to the hospital but signaled an ambulance en route to the hospital, according to MPD.

The victim is listed in non-critical condition.
