Soi Buakhao bars asks Pattaya to reopen
The owners of bars in Soi Buakhao have asked the Pattaya City Hall to allow them to reopen, although it is not up to the local authorities.
Mayor Phumpipat Kamolnart’s secretary received the letter from Romchalee Krans representing the “Save Us Bar Owners” group on 23 November. The coalition represents 46 entertainment companies.
Like the Walking Street traders who did the same the day before, the group has called for the bars to reopen now that Pattaya is receiving international tourists.
And, as before, there is nothing that Pattaya City Hall can do. The decision to reopen bars and allow the sale of alcohol in restaurants rests with the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration, Cabinet in Chonburi Province. The best that the town hall can do is forward the letter.
