Bridgeport bars and restaurants gear up for potential big weekend with NCAA Tournament
The city of Bridgeport is gearing up for a big weekend with thousands of basketball fans coming from hundreds of miles to watch the NCAA Women’s Tournament.
A wave of fans from UConn, Indiana, Notre Dame and North Carolina State will be in Bridgeport to cheer on their teams during a big weekend at Total Mortgage Arena.
Bars and restaurants in Bridgeport say it will be a huge business upturn for them, something they haven’t seen since COVID paused major sports tournaments with spectators.
Several bars and restaurants are increasing their staff for the influx of fans they believe will come out.
“We expect to be busy right off the bat. We have fan clubs from Indiana and UConn planning to be here when we open. They both called and asked if they could rent rooms We have one room rented and the other one we go for a walk…we expect to be full as soon as we open and all day,” said Jeff Browning Sr., of the Brewport Brewing Co.
Some bars and restaurants in Bridgeport say that if you plan to eat or drink locally, be patient as some are not at full capacity with staff and are experiencing some shortages of items.
